Marianne's Favorite Viennese Chocolate Sauce

I adapted an old recipe to the microwave oven, which makes it super easy. It is a wonderful topping for ice cream, crepes, pudding, or one's finger. It is also my choice for dipping big, red, fresh strawberries.

Ingredients:

  • 12 ounces sweet dark chocolate (I use whatever I have, mix kinds to get 12 ounces, Hershey's bars also work well)
  • 5 Tablespoons corn syrup (Karo is one brand)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Place all ingredients in an eight cup, Pyrex measure. Cover tightly with plastic wrap. Cook at 100% for 3 minutes in a microwave oven. Remove from oven. Carefully remove plastic wrap. Stir until it is smooth. Cover again. Cook again for 3 minutes. Remove from oven, remove cover, stir again, making sure it is totally smooth. Store in glass jar with a tight lid, in refrigerator or freezer. Reheat a few seconds at a time, until it is the consistency you prefer.
